The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.
The Alabama and Mississippi Region is comprised of 149 counties that are broken down into eight geographical Chapters – Central Alabama, Mid Alabama, North Alabama, South Alabama, West Alabama, Southwest Mississippi, Southeast Mississippi and North Mississippi.
In 2008, the American Red Cross unveiled the “One Red Cross” initiative which enables resources to be moved seamlessly where they are needed most especially during times of disaster and emergency.
When disasters happen, the Alabama and Mississippi Red Cross readily sends volunteers and resources regularly housed within the state to help with the relief efforts. Many of our volunteers are trained and very experienced due to the tornado outbreaks and tropical storm activity in recent years. With more than 3,500 trained Red Cross volunteers in the Alabama and Mississippi Region, we stand ready to respond to disasters near and far.
